Ouverage de Froideterre

This fortress work lies somewhat faraway in the western range of the battleground. The work conquered only briefly by the Germans, can be committed partly also from the inside.

From the ossuary go into southwest direction to the trail Froideterre.

Ouverage de Thiaumont

It does not give really any longer much to see on the Ouvrage de Thiaumont , but it leaves itself there as in no other place, to recognize nearly still the unchanged moon and crater landscape, which lead from months-long bombardment of all calibers. At the edge of the work we find the two violently contested command posts PC 118 and PC 119.

The work lies between Ossuary and Froideterre.

City of Verdun

The city Verdun is shaped by its historical townscape. An extensive tour should confirm this: Princerie museum, cathedral and much more besides. The old citadel is, as a part of the city fortress, recommendable. A part of 6 km channels are developed as a museum, in which one can drive oneself through on small cars and be able to summon the history of the battle in sound and vision.

Opening times:

From 01 July to 31 August all day 09,00 o'clock to 20,00 o'clock opened, in the remaining time of 12.00 o'clock to 14,00 o'clock closed.
The citadel is closed from 01 January to 10 April.

Caures forest

This is alittle more far away, but an interesting place around the battle from Verdun.
The Caures forest is shaped by the history of lieutenant colonel Driant and its 1200 riflemen. They supplied themselves in the first days of 21.02 - 23.02.1916 embittered engagements with the attacking Germans. In the Caures forest there is the grave Driants, which lost his life in the fights.

From Verdun go on the D 964 over Bras sur Meuse to Vacherauville. Here turn to the right on the D 905 toward Chaumont / Damvillers. After approximately 7 km the shelter is to be seen on the left side.
